Ahem. I have a dirty secret. I'm a little ashamed, but here goes. My name's Dreambaby and I'm a carbonaholic. There. I said it. If everyone in the world were to live as I do, we'd need 4 earths to produce all the resources we'd gobble up!

I'm on step one of a 12 step program. Gotta start small or I might freak out and go buy a fleet of Hummers. First up I got me a Power Meter MS6115. I  plug it into an outlet and then plug any appliance into the meter and I'll be able to see exactly how much of an energy guzzler it really is. It measures energy use and will help me calculate my running costs. Reducing my carbon emissions, and perhaps more excitingly, saving me money!

(In the spirit of airing my dirty laundry I'll let you in on another secret. I'm not much of a greenie, but when I realised how much money I'm wasting every year just through inefficient use of my appliances, I almost passed out. The thought of all those dollars being sucked up into the ether just cos I leave my TV on standby at night, freaked the be-jesus outta me!)

And OK this is hardly a top of the line unit, but hey are you an electrician? It's more than accurate enough for household use. Yes you need to run it for awhile to get the reading, but have you got better things to do than preserve the planet for your children's children?!

And maybe it can't give you a reading on how much your appliances consume in standby mode, but newsflash peoples, you shouldn't be leaving your gear on standby! Turn them off!!! See I have learned something!

Jump on the carbon footprint bandwagon! So you won't feel guilty in 50 years when your grandkids ask you, "Gramps didn't you ever think about us when you were destroying the earth?"

You'd better grab yours today - they won't be here tomorrow.

Do your appliances measure up?
One way to find out...

Menus

Pressing the FUNC button repeatedly will cycle through the following menus:

Volt AC -> Amp -> Watt-> Max Watt -> kWh -> Total Price ->  Total Price 1 -> Total Price 2

Volt AC simply shows the Voltage currently being supplied.  The unit can handle from 200V to 276V.  We assume it is measuring RMS voltage, not peak to peak.

Otherwise we’d not be able to multiply volts by amps to get the power.

Amp show the current being drawn at that instant.  It can handle up to 10A of current.

Watts shows the power being drawn by device you have plugged in at any given moment.

Watts max is a register which shows the maximum power drawn at any instant since you last reset that register.  Press and hold the FUNC key while in the Watts max function, to reset the register to zero.

kWh is a register which shows the total accumulated energy consumed since you last reset the register.  Press and hold the FUNC key within the kWh function, to reset the register to zero.
